Description: The learner will explore literature, drama, poetry, and composition as they relate to each other using literature selections as models for writing, learning how to write better sentences, paragraphs and essays. Vocabulary, spelling, and correct word usage are also studied ; one or two novels and several oral presentations are required.

Description: English II is a full semester required course for all sophomores. Writing, reading, and vocabulary skills will be stressed. In addition, the student will be expected to have a working knowledge of literary terms (plot, setting, conflict, metaphor, simile, etc.) as they apply to the selections studied. The course will include nonfiction, fiction, Shakespeare/drama, poetry, and two novels. Students will also be expected to write a large paper, do various projects, and put together a portfolio.

Description: English III is only required for those who do not take Advanced English. The learner will read selections by American and British authors including: short stories, poetry, essays and excerpts from novels and journals. Vocabulary, literary terms, and authors' lives are included. The learner will also study literature typical to the different historical periods of Britain, including Anglo-Saxon, Medieval, Renaissance, Restoration, Romantic, Victorian and Modern periods.

Description: Advanced English is recommended for those planning to attend college, and is only required for those who do not take English 3. Directed toward college-bound juniors and seniors, this class will help prepare students for college level reading and writing. Students will analyze and interpret numerous American and British Literature. Short stories, poetry, essays, and excerpts are included.
